Context

Probably my favourite project till date was designing The Blue Dot magazine for UNESCO MGIEP. The magazine is a bi-annual publication with a vision of “Transforming Education for Humanity”.

The theme for that particular issue was “Social and Emotional Learning”. I really enjoyed this project because it combined print medium, editorial illustrations, and covered a topic of utmost importance that is close to my heart.

Project

The editorial and research team at UNESCO came up with the written content for the issue, while I handled the design and printing of the entire magazine .

Recognition

The issue was launched by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind, The Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal, and the UNESCO MGIEP Director Dr. Anantha Duraiappah at the World Youth Conference on Kindness 2020.

Process

As the content rolled in, I began planning out the layout and typography style guides. I wanted the magazine to be attractive and readable for adults as well as kids, and settled on a healthy mix of text and illustration.

The layout and typography was adapted from the previous guide designed by Smriti Jaiswal at PMD.

The stars on the cover are my friend’s adorable neighbours Afsana and Abu! The cover’s hand lettering was also inspired by their doodles.
